This custom cassetta frame was inspired by
designs of Arts & Crafts framemaker and gilder
Charles Prendergast (1863-1948). It features
corners that are punched and incised with an
original 'water-lily' motif specifically designed
for the painting. It is finished in water-gilt 22k
genuine gold leaf on red bole, agate-burnished
on the cap, lip, and within the corner motif.
The gilding has been given a light rub to
expose the bole, and an umber wash applied to
further tone the gold leaf.
